        it would be more shocking if they were doing it during landing or takeoff. Cruising at 30,000ft, probably on autopilot? whatevs.

        No, the radio and maps are done by the main 2 pilots these days and most of it is electronic now so the need for a 3rd pilot is unecessary unless they are observing or just jumpseating to position somewhere.
