Our tenant's dog wrecked our carpets, paintwork and scratched the window sills to bits. They stopped paying rent so we were left with a massive bill

Have u considered not being a land baron?
-
Lol I wish. Bought it in 2006 and it lost a bunch of value so we were a bit stuck. A lot of people in the same boat

I have no sympathy

Glad to see Labour focussing on the Big issues. What about the rights of landlords not to have their property trashed!?

No I’m afraid not. It’s the landlords house as such he or she says what is and is not allowed.
-
No one is forced to buy an extra house, preventing someone who doesn't have a house from buying it. If they don't like pets in their spare houses they should sell them to people who need them.
-
Or rent them out and make a living....without pets being allowed

-
You don't need to buy houses to make a living. That's what jobs are for. Buying to let is pure greed.
-
Buying to let is earned actually.....from working full time, then housing somebody else whom can’t afford to buy but rent, but if you own it, it is your right to set the rules. Plus with saving and pensions poor houses are a better way to save for a better retirement.

-
Buying to let is taking your earnings and buying houses that people with lower earnings might have bought. And then charging them rent so they'll never be able to save enough to buy their own house. It's climbing the ladder and pulling it up behind you.
-
Why didn’t they buy it before current owner then? You can’t fault people for working hard and investing money in their own future. My family come before anyone else’s
-
Of course I can fault them. They've inflated the housing market through their greed. The bottom line is no one needs more than one house. Buying more removes them from the market for people who don't have one. And that makes the remaining houses harder to buy for everyone.

If a landlord is happy to take money from people to live in their houses then they have to realise they need to let them LIVE in it , that means let them make choices , paint walls , put up pics AND have a pet!!! It's astounding how badly tenants are treated
-
OK, as long as there is a compulsory insurance that pays out to the landlord for any damages, and sends the bailiffs after the tenants at their next address to recoup costs. Let’s see how many want to keep Tyson the Rottie then...
