On the money based on my experience - 90% of new estates are an abomination from a design perspective. “Planners and engineers have been rapped for allowing new housing developments to be dominated by roads” though?

Why have a pop at the poor overstretched sods trying to stop this rather than the architects and developers that propose the rubbish in the first place, backed by weak government policy?

This might sound strange, but what annoys me most about these new housing estates is actually the gardens. Each garden is just a square-shaped patch of grass with a huge fence around it. No plants, no hedges & no gaps for hedgehogs to get in. I’m not surprised they’re struggling.

Roads are fine providing you have plenty of trees. That's the problem as this picture demonstrates.

@RedrowHomes built new estate in Garforth and have lined the streets with trees as part of the development, either they did it voluntarily or it’s now part of planning requirements. All houses have electric car charging ports too!

Yes, but they expect their rubbish and recycling to be collected and goods to be delivered.

I’d say the problem is no local small stores. New developments don’t often seem to have a nearby Tesco express or similar. Whereas if you live in the ‘old fashioned town centre’ you have useful shops and services all around you (like a barbers)

Good example of this is the village I live in, we have 7000ish residents, and developers are grabbing up land around here like sweets. They're not putting in any traffic management or infrastructure for all these houses so roads through the village have got so busy.
