Then make food that’s good for you cheaper.

Alison - you raise a good point.
@alexhomer@MattHancock Wonder if Government could trial a state owned Healthy Fast Food chain on high streets to sell healthy takeaways at takeaway prices. Call it “ Energy King “. Use a healthy ambassador like@thebodycoach Joe Wicks to promote.pic.twitter.com/Li2XkNpBpB -
It’s more complex than that. Because it’s hard to get permission for takeaways, units with existing permission come at a premium which stifles innovation because the risk is higher. Even if someone comes along seeking permission for a healthy takeaway they won’t get it because...
-
...a. planning permission is for the landuse not the operator so an unhealthy takeaway could come forward through deception, and b. even if the healthy takeaway opened there’s nothing to stop it flipping to an unhealthy takeaway in the future
-
Thank you Tom for this contribution to a complex topic.

No one forces you to go in these places.

High streets would be full of abandoned shops without them, be careful what you wish for BBC.

This is because the high street reflects what real people want, rather than what politicians and celebrities want. Live and let live, eh?

Easy to blame the takeaways.. What about thr absolute crap that sold and bought in super markets that you dont find in some countries. Our processed food purchase% at supermarkets must be ridiculously high. Poor education
-
It's also much cheaper than fresh food.

Perhaps have more takeaways with narrower doorways.

Is freedom of choice to eat what you like coming now too?

No one makes you go in them. Why penalise small businesses?

Most of Asia live on takeaways & street food and they are not fat, it's a way of life because of the hours they work. Obese people are ignorant of their problem & their health and should be 'educated' to stop the problem, don't penalise everyone because of some peoples ignorance
-
It’s not really a great comparison, in principle a takeaway can be healthy but I can’t really think of any in any of the towns and cities I visit. In Asia the choice is vast, here it’s basically fish and chips, fried chicken, kebabs and pizzas
-
Nearly all takeaways and street food across Asia is fried, which we know is not overly healthy. It's the people who eat too much junk food that are the problem not the establishments that cook and sell the food.
