When my son needed his first pen over 14 years ago it was a specialist at the hospital that started him on them, not a chemist, nor me or my wife, so why should chemists be asking parents if their child really needs them? The World has gone mad let me off please

Read the article.

I read it, but my point was against chemists, not the actual pen, my son's is for his diabetes, my youngest daughter has epilepsy and the chemist has started to ask if she still needs the medication she has everyday, it is getting out of hand chemists playing Doctor's
-
Because they’re the ones supplying the pens. They clearly are concerned that the people who need them get them before the supply is replenished. Why would your child need it being diabetic? My daughter’s diabetic, and we carry a glucagon not an epi pen.
-
It can be used as alternative
-
I’ve never heard that. Interesting. They’re so much more expensive. $300 in the US
-
Fortunately my daughter's epi-pens are free of charge, as are all prescriptions for children. Adults would pay £8 I think.
-
The main cost is incurred by the NHS, which is funded by our taxes.

You are being obtuse. Parents are not required to make a judgment call. Read the article.

Can chemists override the specialists and the GP's for issuing such a prescription?
-
Good grief, doesn't anyone read the article before commenting these day?

I'm so exasperated I can't type properly <leaving thread hastily>

Don't give them to children who don't need another one at the moment? So what?

So long as they are given out to those who require them.
