I don't understand why banks stopped checking that the name & bank details tallied up. If they had left this in place, maybe not as many people would have lost their money. Just be alert until July 2019, the scammers will be working ovetime to catch you out.

Using the e.g. in the story, say scammer sees ABC builders van outside a house, he mocks up an ABC invoice detailing discount for immediate payment and delivers it to the house, account name for payment is ABC Builders, sort code and acc number are for HIS acc.
