Yes, great for cyclist but can we estimate how many motorists will dislocate their necks

If the driver does not have the mobility to turn and look over their shoulder before opening the door, then I dread to think how they check their blind spot when moving between motorway lanes/turning corners...
-
If a cyclist hasn't the vision to put his brakes on and use his handlebars to turn what is he/she doing on a bike.
-
Turning handlebars probably means swerving into moving traffic (if time anyway). This problem is not about car doors opening ahead of cyclists, it's opening INTO cyclists. Stop blaming others for your lack of situational awareness. Stop victim blaming.
-
Victim blaming. You're hilarious.
-
Replace 'cyclist' with pedestrian or other motorist. In those instances you still say that they are at fault for having a car door opened into them? I do not deny everyone must be aware of their surroundings, but your posts show a disturbing bias against one particular group.

Haven't you got some bubble wrap that needs popping?

when are they going to get cyclists to have lights on their bikes and reflective gear so we can see them
-
it's already a legal requirement to have front and back lights and reflectors if cycling on roads at night.. maybe need enforcing more
-
shops should be stopped from selling bikes without them
-
I agree they should

more in that article than when a cyclist killed the pedestrian last year. Not all cyclists ride safely maybe look there
-
It’s against the law to endanger someone with a car door. It doesn’t matter what they’re doing, the law is explicitly clear as to a driver’s obligations

I was taught to always check my wing mirror before I opened the door - seems to have the same purpose.

Yes, I have. To all those who respond thoughtlessly with comments about cyclists' responsibilities, it is to avoid cases like this:https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/local-news/dad-sam-boulton-calls-law-254256 …

If only there was some sort of device that reflected light so the driver could see at a glance what was coming up behind.
