What needs sorting is not whether UC should be paid weekly/monthly. It’s getting it paid at all, by a system that doesn’t penalise you if you get paid early for a bank holiday, or weekly/fortnightly/4weekly instead of monthly. The system stinks. Scrap it and start again.

Here’s a novel idea, why doesn’t the DWP and BBC ask those who need it?

i think monthly as it helps people mirror a work payment schedule. provide budget support for those who may need it. the 5 week waiting time isn’t fair on those in desperate need. shame to see comments that perpetuate the idea that those on welfare are lazy/

/but not surprised. the tory media have done a good job at convincing us those in need are scum rather than the super rich elite. a robust and supportive welfare state is what we need in the u.k. support vulnerable ppl, don’t ridicule/make it difficult for them.

Those with low incomes (whether from employment, pensions, or benefits) should always have the option of being paid weekly.

Monthly payment may be part of problem alongside benefits being too low cos of Tory austerity, sanctions regime that stops payment for no good reason, no income support safety net to ensure no one left without any money for food etc etc etc.

some months you have 5 weeks rent to pay but you only get your money once a month which you are short of a weeks money . it should be paid every two weeks like it used to be just another way to force people into arrears with their bills
