Cheap renewable energy. I bet their prices still go up every year.

Actually the cheapest small energy suppliers at the moment are touting that they are selling completely renewable electricity. How they package it in the wires so it doesn’t mix with that gas generated stuff is a mystery to me ; ).

They need to have a chat with
@InterruptUK who can help store even more green energy@ScottishPower@SP_EnergyPeople -
Let's collaborate and get the best flexible energy supply in the world! We can store at least 25kWh in the space of a football & charge & discharge in less than 30seconds. Get in touch!

That pic says it all though - the lack of investment in more efficient turbines is ruining the countryside

What happens when it's not windy? Winter 2010 was below zero and no wind for a month.
-
That’s why you have turbines in lots of different places. Not to mention power isn’t a unique resource. Just because you buy from Scottish Power doesn’t mean they generated it. Electricity is just like a big pool that companies put in and take out of.
-
You also have interconnects to other countries and National Grid I believe are looking at grid scale battery backup. Baseload is an important issue. Nuclear for now is best bet (but not overpriced Hinckley project!) but tidal, hydro, battery and interconnects for future
-
Storage is years away. And once it's perfected all cars will be electric thus creating a huge hike in demand.Solving one problem leads to many others. Transmission losses are also huge and there doesn't seem to be any concerted effort to solve this. Local generation needs a look
-
Transmission losses aren’t that big, only about 2% of generation. Also, storage whilst not perfect is still possible. Tesla built their 100 megawatt battery in Australia, lots of countries currently use hydro-storage to great effect 1/2
-
Hydro storage is good Tesla storage is in the infant stage but hopefully will get better. I still think when storage is available all vehicles will change almost overnight and with 39 million vehicles on the road this will be a problem and windmills not the solution
-
Not the only solution, but I think a good help. Realistically, for sustainable electric car use people need to help generate there own power. Solar roofs and house battery storage will help massively with demand. The grid can fill the rest, with variable energy generation.
-
I think you’re right. Local generation is the way forward. I feel all these companies virtue signalling renewables are trying too hard on the wrong ideas
