Oh shut up. Does the BBC ever criticise the Royals? There's a substantial number of people who do not support this clap trap and we pay our TV licence fee. Time the BBC was more balanced and less sycophantic towards these pampered, idle ,useless Royals.

I call the BBC regularly to point out it is not their purpose to be an extension of the so called "Royal" family PR/propaganda department....

Is it the role of BBC News to offer congratulations? Sure, as much as I hate it, report it. Sadly, it’s “important” news to a lot of people for some reason. But offering congratulations? That’s gone beyond “impartial” news into the realm of defence of an institution.

How about the BBC's defence of the institution of a civil ceremony when congratulating Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles on their happy union? Did you have a problem with that too, Dave?

It's only roughly 2% as bizarre as the remark that provoked it. There are far more pressing matters to concern yourself with than whether or not the public broadcaster expresses a conventionally kind gesture to a married couple. It doesn't endorse anything in so doing.

I await their congratulations of other couples. In not doing so for others, it’s an implicit endorsement of the legitimacy of the royal institution. You clearly miss my point - this is not the role of any NEWS section to offer a subjective element. It’s the role of comment.

Had your original remark been more explicit then it wouldn't have been the institution of marriage that it was confused for. Though, I note you don't appear to object to the broadcaster, by inference of congratulation, expressing an 'endorsement' of that institution?
