Should there not be a feature in modern cars that the car wont start unless the belt is worn along side the bleeping noise that already exists ? Maybe have a mechanism to turn it off in rare circumstances.

I’ve seen some drivers clip the belt in then sit on it

Natural Selection at work I say. If you are that bloody stupid I have little sympathy.

The problem is they end up killing the innocent with their own stupidity. When they fly about the car and clunk heads with whoever else is in the car with them and most of the time people travel with children.

When my taxi driver brother was hit by a drunk driver it was not wearing a seat belt that saved his lived. The side impact damaged his legs for life but the impact sent him across the car rather than being fixed in his seat. If he'd been wearing a belt he would have been killed!

Anecdotal evidence does not prove that wearing a seat belt will kill you !! Your friend was lucky, that's all. Thousands of other are not so lucky.

I work in Safety and have a colleague who thinks we should remove all safety instructions and advice and simply let nature take its course. Rid ourselves of the useless third of the population that are to stupid to be of use. “The Golgafrinchen Solution”.

WHY!! Why why why do people still not wear a seat belt. The thought of being shoved through a windscreen at 60mph kinda makes me wear mine. I went down the M1 last year and saw a kid laying across the back parcelshelf of a car, how stupid do you have to be to let this happen.

It's a sad state of affairs, we wouldn't need seat belts if every driver drove safely, I am that old I remember the law coming in, and my Dad ignored the law saying it should be drivers choice to wear them or not, he looked at it as a little of his freedom being chiseled away.

I remember the law too. A mates soft top flipped in to a ditch , mechanical fault , he was thrown clear , whoosh it went up . He wasn't belted in, saved his life .

Although I can see a correlation between those that voted for it and those that don’t wear a seatbelt...
