"We are deeply sorry... all of us want meaningful change to come from this tragedy" Pret a Manger CEO Clive Schlee on the death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who suffered an allergic reaction after eating a baguette http://bbc.in/2OhK2T4 pic.twitter.com/H1K8tFF2oE

If food is dangerous to you then take care of yourself and always carry something from home - blaming others is tiresome - grieving family can do it without demanding a public performance
-
Disgusting comment.

I am allergic to milk I can die. I do not take chances on others cooking. I can't risk them forgetting they put butter in the food. I had this all my life now 50. I learned at a young age not to trust anything I'm about to eat. So she is correct on her statement.

I have to carry emergency health tools too - if the kid was on her selfie phone, not paying attention & walks in to a bus, the snowflake parents would blame the bus - trashing a business because a kid was tuned out is not fair
-
You seem to be missing the point that she and her father checked the label and deemed it was safe because of how they labels their product. She then died. Whose suffering more a a multi million pound business or a family that’s lost a child. This is Prets Fault. Not hers.
-
Exactly, the coroner is not happy and is writing letters to several people asking for change to happen.

They won’t exist at all after Brexithttps://ec.europa.eu/food/safety/labelling_nutrition_en …

Nonsense!

We will lose 1000’s of laws, agreements, licenses etc in 1 day. If we crash out without a deal we will have shortages of food, medicines and no planes allowed to take off. Do you honestly think food labelling will be top priority?

Scaremongering is not at all helpful on this situation. You are also very wrong in your comments.

As a parent of a child with food allergy I thank Natasha's family for their courage in trying to change the law to help others. We have had near misses due to poor labeling, but assumed that 2 epi pens would always be enough, as I'm sure they did. Much love to the family.

If my child had the allergies that this poor girl had, if I had even the slightest of doubt in my mind over a ready made sandwich and it's ingredients, I wouldn't allow my child to eat it. Simple.

Very sorry for loss. I do wonder how any of us survived pre food labelling. If I had any allergies I would always prepare my own food very carefully.

For 'made on the premises' food, all you will get is "may contain..." on everything because there is always a danger of cross contamination.

The irony is is that Pret have made their name from preparing mostly fresh food on the premises as opposed to bought in or pre packaged Sandwiches. But is it just me not noticing, or did we not seem to have these allergies 30 years ago?
-
We have mucked around with food so much to make it yield more crop, last longer, bake quicker etc... are bodies are increasingly rejecting the artificial crap we put in them.

Do British Airways also have questions to answer by not offering the defibrillator? Are the crew trained to deal with medical emergencies?

I have an odd allergy, but companies appear to be allowed to just put "spices" or "flavourings".... Unfortunately my allergy is usually in these two cover-all crap descriptions. ALL ingredients need printing up.
