And yet he managed to tell the BBC his story in English.

Find another way to remember your culture, the cost of maintaining multilingual public services and signage is not justifiable especially when only a small minority of that small cultural minority read and write the language themselves. It’s a vanity we can’t afford.
-
We could save a lot of money by just having signs in welsh, look at other countries with their languages only. But that would be petty as it would offend the repsectful neighbours just because of you. Cymru am byth
Yma o hyd. -
Only 20% of Welsh understand even spoken Welsh, written less. What you say is patently absurd
-
Stick to matters of your side of the border, it's not perfect is it?
-
I'll simplify the previous explenation. You give the english a bad name. Was that better?
-
I’m British, I represent the British.
-
same thing again, stick to your side of the border

I'm close, Seven Trent Water, also a good friend in Bangor. How Welsh are you?

He knew when he wrote the letter that it might get this response. Just trying to get attention. English is the language of business. Accept it, rewrite the letter and move on. Non story.

Was there really any need to send the letter in Welsh?

Deliberate trouble making, nothing more. Silly sod.
-
Not at all. He’s Welsh and lives in Wales. Hardly trouble making to want to speak his own language. Banks accept currency in Welsh and offer Welsh language services.....

Sounds like a reasonable enough request, assuming the gentleman is literate in English. So what's the issue? Why the story?

Considering only 19% of the Welsh speak Welsh? Also HSBC (Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) maybe write in Chinese next time?
-
Your missing the point entirely. HSBC offer Welsh language services and accept currency in Welsh. He has a right to communicate in Welsh considering he’s Welsh and lives in Welsh.
