Did the train have a guard on board?

And if there had been a guard, this probably wouldn't have happened. Keep the Guards on the Trains!
-
Absolutely. Safety should always come first.

Everyone is blaming the rail company...but this is mainly the owner's fault. It's up to her to make sure her pet is on the train safely.

A lesson to anyone taking a pet on a train make sure they are safely strapped in carriage or at the very least ask someone to help you with your luggage etc
-
Well no good expecting help from Station staff at most of these stations these days!!

When rail workers went on strike in protest at cutting guards they were vilified by the press. How long before a child, elderly/disabled person gets something trapped in a train door? Rail companies putting profit before safety yet again.
-
For goodness sake, maybe you should wait until the full facts are known?
-
For goodness sake, the facts are known. A dog died because it's lead got trapped in the train door. What we're waiting for is the results of the inquiry into those facts. I'm commenting on safety in general.

Typical of the rail workers don’t care about the dog just bleat on about their campaign for the guard to be kept - anyhow sounds like a careless owner’s fault
-
Probably because the two go hand in hand. When we dispatch trains we have a button that indicates to the driver to stop. Maybe if you understood the full role of a guard then you’d realise that we are there for yours and other passengers safety.
-
Actually I agree there should be a guard on trains - I’m old enough to remember steam trains with the guards waving the wee flag and blowing his whistle to set the journey off

A guard wouldn’t have dispatched a train with anything in the doors. Another reason driver only shouldn’t be allowed.

In a short period of time two door incidents that would have been prevented with an old fashioned set of human eyes!

Really, really sad but, no sensor is going to detect anything as slim a a lead caught in the doors.
-
A pair of guards eyes might just see a dog/child/person being dragged along! That tunnel is some distance from the station!!!
-
Doubt that they would have made any difference. Presumably the owner was first to realise what had happened & raised the alarm immediately.
