Not me!! I'm not that daft. I've got a rich uncle I never knew I had in Ethiopia. He emailed me last week! He has some money for me. All I have to do is forward some money to release the funds and give them my bank account details and I'm rich!

My colleague's mum told him she'd had an email saying she'd won the Dutch lottery but that she needed to send money to them in order for them to be able to transfer the winnings (I know
) My mate replied 'well do you play the Dutch lottery?' 'No she said'

It’s ridiculous how little banks do. They think emails, phone calls and tv ads will get the message across but the most vulnerable to scammers won’t be using technology to an extent. Banks should do more as should police.

Someone I know got scammed to the tune of £8K. Bank called Police when man took 2x£4K from his account. Some banks are proactive.

Heard a tale 50 years ago of a farmer buying cattle on HP, selling them to pay instalments, 100's of times. HP Co. finally got suspicious, farmer skipped country. Joke was that farmer's land securing the loans was so small the cows would only have fit on it standing 3 deep

I sometimes see 20 or more phishing scams a day on Microsoft Outlook/Hotmail - while Gmail's spam filter catches almost everything. Banks could do much more to stop fraud if they weren't too busy scamming their customers themselves.
-
Banks receiving scammed funds are substantially at fault if an account has been opened with false ID - if not false ID or hijacked account the scammer would always be caught. Such transactions have common, known characteristics that should raise red flags at both banks.
