As someone who has a severe peanut allergy, this is a ridiculous suggestion. The issue here is that the ingredients list isn’t printed on individual pret products. If they were this poor girl would have been able to avoid this and choose something else.

All food from cafes and shops should be marked with allergen information and ingredient information. Pret A Manger are in the wrong not listing the information because if the girl had seen the info she wouldn't have bought the baguette and her death could have been avoided.

Very sad but u can't blame the store. If u know there's a risk ask about the ingredients or take your own food. Sad that these parents have lost a child but the responsibility starts at home.
-
“Sad that these parents have lost a child *but* ....” - we’ll just quickly glide over the deceased schoolgirl for a righteous tip, shall we? A 15 year old girl has died because she trusted the ingredients listed on packaging. There is an obligation of trust when you buy food /1
-
You can’t blame the parents (or victim) because they trusted a company and didn’t forever carry food on them everywhere they went - should all allergy sufferers, vegans etc carry a picnic basket of food because we just can’t trust a food company to label their food?!

I have a severe allergy to chilli and carry epipens. I don’t eat anything that hasn’t got ingredients listed. Some items just say “spices”. I don’t risk it. This is really tragic.

If an allergy is that severe, Should the parents not be taking their own food for their child? Personally something so precious I would not trust or rely on accurate food prep by anyone else.
-
No. Allergies are long well known about by big companies and they would expect a label. With partial understanding don't imply any criticism of parents in this context or you could come across as a nasty piece of work.
-
Excuse me??? If my child had an allergy that severe I would not risk it!
-
Its pretty grim that a tragedy occurs and people can make ill informed comments about it on Twitter.
-
It seem the family didn’t even read the allergy infomation available in the shop.
-
Poor show then

@pret How can you state as stated in this article that you take allergens seriously, when you cant even label food in your shops. Thats not taking it seriously that's negligence. BBC News - Girl with allergy dies after airport Pret baguette -
Thank you! It’s negligent!
-
not sure if you are correcting me but it is negligence as well negligent.
-
Now I re- read this - I totally see how that came across! I’m sorry! I was more like shouting it’s negligent in frustration with people that think this is ok!
-
It's perfectly cool Ash. We are both on the same side.
