Why? I don’t understand this obsession with skin colour. Enrol on merit and merit alone.

Cambridge university is regarded as one of the most elite in the country & even the world & it's difficult to get into, as people have always been accepted on merit. Accepting someone based on colour devalues the uni & merit system. This obsession with diversity creates division!
-
While this is true and I agree with you, also note that it’s deepening lines of division that have birthed the obsession with diversity

And when they manage it, but they’re not dark enough the BBC will accuse them of Colourism. Sick of your race-baiting BBC.

It certainly needs help, but not the help it thinks it needs. One cannot have external change without a racist institution changing internally, too. There has to be acknowledgement of a problem FIRST, before any kind of solution can begin to take shape.
-
What exactly do you believe the problem is?
-
Presumably that black people should get a free pass to Cambridge and take the places of others ( Asian and white) who would get there on merit alone.

Why patronise black people by singling them out like this? Just base everything on merit - if you're good enough, you're in.

Why? And why is BBC obsessed with the things that Mr Average is not interested in. The same lunatics that come up with this rubbish will be crying in a few years when voters make gov scrap licence fee. We don't need another chanel4

Are we seeing the development of "Whiteism" in this country? I did not get into Oxford. Maybe they were looking for ethnic minority students to boost the numbers. (Or maybe I wasn't good enough. I shall never know.)

Playing the victim is the problem. Try harder, study harder is the solution

Skin colour shouldn't be/probably isn't the issue. Entry criteria is same for everyone. They just don't meet it. Academic achievements, personal experience or ability to fund will all play part. Many applications from across spectrum of ethnicity are rejected.
