How has VR failed? You understand it's still in early development and with the likes of PlayStation making VR more accessible to the masses.

VR has far from failed. It's just that the hype put unrealistic targets on it's future.

Mid end headsets require specific phones. Top end kit is far too expensive. To truly take off, VR has to be portable and easy for all ages

VR is more relevant more than ever, look at the hype cycle for more reassurance... Having said that AR is set to supercede!

"failing..." was a bad choice of word, but I do think VR needs an immersive standalone headset between high end and mobile VR

you'll see a company produce an all in one headset and console combo (not PSVR etc) that'll be a hit because you don't need top end kit

Smells of Laserquest etc to me. I love the experience and using a headset - but, it's really only successful for events at present.
