Probably because university is only for the wealthy now

You literally just described what I'm talking about. You can still afford to go because of your parents. There's nothing fair about
-
Being in that much debt, not for anyone. But is especially offputting for people who come from working class backgrounds.
-
You only start paying it back once you hit the income threshold, and even then it's very manageable instalments. Being 'poor' isn't an xcuse
-
Outside the red bricks, the courses and standard of education/ curriculum is the problem. Political/ideological bias amongst lecturers.

Probably because people are realising you don't NEED a degree. You may if you know what you want to do in life. If not, just worthless debt.
-
Unless you know what you want to do, get the degree, & have to job search for 6yrs. 3yrs teaching & I can finally to start paying my loans.

-
I hear you. I'm glad I didn't go to uni. I'm doing great without a degree, only debt is my house and that's ok with me.

Never mind your A-levels, what's your parents' portfolio?

Because it's a rip off leaving young people with huge debts and the courses are rubbish
-
It's happening because apprenticeships are a better and more widely available option for a lot of careers... but no we must politicise!
-
But that's not true? In my area there are only two apprenticeships available. Most kids want to go to uni. The problem they face is the cost
-
Only two apprenticeships? There are websites online with tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of post a-level apprenticeships
-
They're not accessible enough. I live in a rural area w/ limited opportunities. My siblings have all struggled to find non-uni alternatives.
-
So you would move for a uni place but wouldn't move for an apprenticeship? I see nought but laziness
