This is what a single-payer system can look like. Parents denied right to move Charlie to private hospital for 2nd opinion. Big Brother!

What a load of tosh.... without our NHS they may not have been able to afford to pay. Ridiculous comment...typical of US
-
Not all US people agree with that I am one all for the NHS...

I know there are some of you :-)

GOSH said exactly this weeks ago, it was too late for nucleoside therapy- which they offer there. The US and Trump were cruel to offer hope.
-
Nothing could reverse his brain damage and organ damage, certainly not nucleoside.

Tragically sad... the courts should never have delayed this case... prayers for the family
-
Not sure how this is the courts fault?

People think medicine is magic, that with enough money you can do anything. They don't realize we are still limited.
-
Medicine is a gamble sometimes, but isn't life worth a chance? Otherwise why even try cancer treatments when statically it's a 50:50 chance
-
Life is always worth a chance, but sometimes you just run out of options. This isn't a 50/50 case.
-
Is 10% chance enough? Who knows,we all respond to meds differently-age, onset of disease, time of 1st treatment-all have an effect results.
-
Not even 10%. Not even 1%. The 10% figure was for a treatment that, ultimately, would not have let him live even normally if it worked.

Disgusting that they had to take this to law, parents have the right to do their best for their children no court should interfere.
-
Parents are not medically qualified to prescribe or administer drugs to kid. Drs are, but no evidence drug would work
-
Doctors are afraid of being proved wrong which the often are.
-
If this drug had killed the boy- it hadn't even been tested in mice- then how is the dr that prescribed it meant to live with that?
