That is nothing less than a disgraceful sentence. I hope the prosecution lodge an appeal.

Then why punch someone in the first place? Totally unprovoked attack.

Another absurdly short sentence for murder.
-
He was cleared of murder (lack of intent). For manslaughter - to which he'd pleaded guilty - this is a very firm sentence
-
It isn't a 'very firm' sentence at all. A judge can impose a maximum life sentence for voluntary manslaughter.
-
As far as I know, this was an involuntary manslaughter conviction - no intent & he wasn't pleading diminished responsibility
-
Would explain the sentence. Guilty plea reduces term by a third and the 5 years on licence is in effect part of the sentence
-
Yes - up to a third, incentive is to plead early (which I think he did). The murder charge was probably only ever a tactic
-
Seems in line with guidance in that case. Due process aside it is a small price for ending someone's life. Another debate tho

should be stronger penalties at the end of the day he took a life :(

horrible case, doesn't seem a long sentence considering he took a totally innocent man's life for doing nothing wrong
