@sarantfc_ @BBCNews Why can life not mean life? EU laws of course.

EU has no say over our punishment length for murder
-
I think we are duty bound to give a minimum tariff even in the worse cases. I think this is EU directive.
-
The ECHR have ruled that whole-life sentences - allowed under English law - breached the European Convention on Human Rights.
-
that has absolutely nothing to do with the EU.
-
of course it does. The European Court of Justice are the law makers of the EU.
-
again nothing to do with the ECHR

@BBCNews I'm confused by that headline...life and sentenced to 8 years?! Am I missing something?
-

Stop locking them up at UK Tax Payers cost & just deport them to their won countries to serve their time in prison there.

@BBCNews they should change the term "for life", as it's misleading when there is a minimum term -
yes 8.5 years minimum certainly ain't life.
-
life should be that - you die in prison. otherwise it's a discretionary sentence, term decided by judge
-
rename it to "inconvenienced for a minimum of 8.5 year"

just give them a talk talk account
-
you can't do that, they have human rights!! that kind of cruelty is not fair to them!
