@BBCBreaking@sudorossy Just to clarify: She was on a medication that was fine for 10 years. Only banned January 1st and she wasn't updated -
@eksith@sudorossy she was updated, just didn't read the list -
@nobaldouk How many emails do you think Sharapova gets? I get about 200 - 250 per day. Non-spam "important". And I'm nobody -
@eksith if I were a pro athlete, I reckon I'd read one from WADA with subject "updated banned substance list 2016", or at least ask advisor -
@nobaldouk@eksith exactly ! No sympathy

@BBCBreaking This is truly sad for me to read. I have long admired her. Great player. No need for performance enhancing drugs. :( -
@jackellyreed@BBCBreaking from what it sounds like, it wasn't PED and medical drug. -
@ajittlelamb@BBCBreaking Then I am relieved - will keep an eye on this story. Thank you! -
@jackellyreed@BBCBreaking It's meldonium and I'm guessing she's been taking it since she had that major shoulder injury. Let's hope so. -
@ajittlelamb@BBCBreaking I get that now .... I hope this gets cleared up quickly. She is one of my favorite players. -
@jackellyreed@BBCBreaking I don't think it's a cheat drug, it's health related. Mine too! Saw her at Wimbledon in 2014. -
@ajittlelamb@BBCBreaking melatonin is used for different reasons, tho I have not researched it. I'm rooting for her still. -
@jackellyreed@BBCBreaking It's commonly used in Russia, so it looks as though she was medically prescribed the drug.

@BBCBreaking doesn't sound like a performance enhancing drug though -
@ajittlelamb@BBCBreaking read the literature. It's angiotensin for angina. Why for her? Then further "can increase exercise capacity" -
@StuartinTrosley@BBCBreaking It doesn't sound like it was being used for PED reasons though. -
@ajittlelamb check it out. A Russian skater also banned for same drug. The athletes all have angina in Russia ? -
@StuartinTrosley It's commonly used in the Russian Fed. But I believe for her it's medically prescribed, for others maybe not. -
@ajittlelamb your choice. Thousands will not - including me - 1 more reply
