I remember this so clearly. The great viewing public just didn't seem to grasp that the BBC couldn't just instantly create new productions or bring forward all their winter scheduling into the summer months.

It was also fascinating to read the letters pages of Radio Times then. It seemed that there were people who literally never watched the BBC until the strike began.
