Thousands of girls in West Africa have been enslaved by a centuries old practice called “trokosi”, which has been banned. Twenty years ago, Brigitte was one of those girls.pic.twitter.com/sYVqcKAtqq

At the age of just 7, Brigitte was labelled a trokosi, or “a wife of the gods.” This is what she had to go through every day, before she was adopted and moved to the US.pic.twitter.com/jZL7TpkpN4

Come on @BBCAfrica. West Africa constitutes 18 countries & 360 million people. It’s like saying hundreds of bulls in Europe die from bull-fighting. Did you not have enough characters to spell out the countries, or were you just too lazy?

Why are we saying « West Africa » when we can pinpoint the actual country(ies). We did not go through the partition of Africa for you to choose when to put us together or tell us apart

It's totally unfair of BBC to make a sweeping generalization on the whole of West Africa as practising this abominable custom. Specific reference to the particular people and region would guide the audience better.

@jacobswellchild Saying 'West Africa' is about as informative as saying, "in Western Europe they practice wedding shooting". West Africa is extremely diverse in customs and culture as i expect you would know. Is there any reason you can't name the country?

Thanks for the clarification. West Africa is not a village, couldn't understand why @BBCAfrica would generalise the practice to the whole of West Africa

Its just a blackmail journalism. They're telling the illiterate westerners that africa is still a bush. Thank God the black panther movie has opposed them.
