Less than 24 hours after our film Sweet Sweet Codeine aired, the Nigerian government announced a total ban on cough syrup with codeine. No more #codeinediet? Watch BBC Africa Eye and BBC Pidgin’s full documentary on Nigeria’s cough syrup addiction crisishttps://youtu.be/-I_Lche2otU

please do a report on the killings by Fulani herdsmen. It seems it takes a foreign news network to take interest before Nigerian govt responds to a long existing issue.

It took @BBCAfrica report for the government take action, "less than 24hours"?Yet nothing like "less than 24hours" action despite several/years of #Codeine addiction report by local media?!

This is a step fwd and government should also declare public health emergency in this area. Just like US and Canada did for opioid epidemic. In addition, we need to have comprehensive strategy to curtail the growing menace of substance use in Nigeria.

Codiene is just a pain killer. It's in some cough medicine to ease aches and pains you night have.

Hmm...one suspects they just created a very lucrative black market and will now have to deal with a rise in criminal activity surrounding it.

The Nigerian Govt fails in the implementation of policies. They've succeeded in driving off it's productn and distributn into the black market, enriching corrupt middlemen, security officials and less tax derived. Learn from marijuana.

Is there any catalyst to killings than drug/substance abuse? The ban is a victory for #Nigeria

Maybe, if u highlight the killings & property destruction that is carried out by the gov't of dictator biya on the Southern Cameroon people, the @UN & the rest of world might just take it seriously. These gov'ts are causing more harm to people than codeine. #BiafraLivesMatter

Dear @BBCAfrica Will be kind enough to do a documentary on #EndSARS ? Bad policemen and women are killing and maiming lives here in Nigeria while while those in authority sit and do nothing.

Codeine hasn't even adversely affected people like Alcohol and cigarettes have. Cigarettes kill 17,500 people yearly in Nigeria, 25% of deaths for ages 20-39 is alcohol-attributable.
