I don`t hang around people who only think of my time of getting married, instead, I hang around those who challenge me how many degrees I should be having. Thinking of those who will challenge me in owning an aeroplane to land me in my home instead of driving #BBCAfricaGirlTalk

A degree is seen as a route to success & since no man wants to marry a dependent, they go for the independent women. However, once the degree(s) and job have been checked off, a woman becomes intimidating, the men flee & her family reminds her about your age

@chimamandaadie " the kind of man that would be intimidated by my success, is the kind of man I don't want to get involved with in the first place" -
No woman would want a man that she can intimidate; however, when "time starts racing", her family will start putting pressure and she will start thinking of having kids before the scary age of 40.

Generally, marriage is used as a measure of success for women while our male counterparts are not exposed to that societal pressure. People will overlook everything else & say she has failed to get herself a man as if that makes her less of a successful person

If you've got a degree, a car and a house you're already married

In my family getting admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court was all the marriage I got... Biggest party...Nothing else was/is as important, simply additions...

#BBCAfricaGirlTalk after acquiring all these things you are sure to be asked when you are getting married and if you aren’t able to handle societal pressures well enough you find yourself depressed and traumatized because the never-ending brutality continues till you marry - 1 more reply

@advocatemahere@nompilo_simanje this is an interesting subject. Please participate so that we arrest 'discrimination and victimisation' of successful women -
i think this is what we have failed to do as a society, we have failed to realise and accept that marriage is a subjective issue and hence the question which should be asked first before we are asked 'Where is your man?' is 'Do you want to get married?'

I Know People Who Are Married But Are Unhappy And Unmarried Who Are Happy... I Know People Who Married Later On In Life And Are Happy As Well... My Point Here Is That Everything Happens At Their Own Time And Pace. What Matters Is Creating A Meaningful, Purposeful Fulfilling Life.

I don't think it is wrong for me to tell my sister when she is getting married. Married is good but it is not byforce to get into it.
