I hate that these cremes exist, but the desire to lighten one's skin to meet European beauty ideals is not a new issue.
Ironic seeing this from the BBC given England’s history of imperialism & colonialism leading to such issues as ppl hating their dark skin.
These ads have been in Africa for decades, stop acting like it was put up yesterday.
Stop it with the jokes, people just wanna be on the limelight. Shame on you Africa for stooping so low like the white man
Wait, what? There are so many companies producing skin lightening lotions/cream, nobody gives a fuss about them. And why Nivea?
They produce them for people who want them.
“Smash all the mirrors
That I may not see
The blackness of the past
From which I came
Reflected in them.“
the bane of many Africans.
There's nothing racist about the product.Consumers still their right to what to consume and Nivea isn't the only company with such products
nope, the problem here is you forgetting that some black people actually buy creams that make you "whiter". Where's the racism ?
Fair&lovely: A girl goes for a job interview and she is denied a job, then she applies the cream and after a month goes back and gets it.smh
If there is demand why shouldn’t a business supply? If there are people who want to be lighter, it is their right!
A lot of Ads lately been facing issues over racism, black people just wanna make issues outta nothing tbh
dumbest thing I've read in years? This is making issues outta nothing? We've been vocal about it but social media has enhanced its reach FOH
The world gets better when racism, racist ignorance is challenged. Some people choose to do that, others choose to be passive and complicit.
But is there a demand for this product? And if there is, what should Nivea put on the label?
I am fair-medium skinned mixed race and buy tanning products to get dark. Same thing different shade.
I used Nivea for a long time before switching to shea butter; and it never lightened my skin. #richmelanin
