Today’s African #proverb: When one father dies, another father lives. An Akan proverb sent by Ato Bonney and Emmanuel Jackson, both from Ghana. How do you interpret this proverb? https://bbc.in/2JPEgGU pic.twitter.com/nfGhYdtd5E

I fnd a similarity with this english proverb of the XIIIth century : “The King is dead, Long live the King!” Declaration made when Edward I immediatlety ascended to the throne of the kingdom of England after the death of his father, king Henry III, nov 16th 1272! No power vacuum

Just to say that there is always somebody to look after an orphan in african tradition! But to be honest, the reality on ground is very different, mainly in urban areas where you have many abandoned children in the streets!

I think it expresses the aspect of Ubuntu. Once a child is born, parenting is the responsibility of all.

•when one door or source of access or support closes another will be opened. •In the spirit of community and common union, the responsibility of fatherhood or fathering lives on irrespective of whoever takes over after death of a father.
