Many people with mental health problems in Ghana turn to "prayer camps" and traditional healing centres for help. Despite a government ban, many of these institutions use chains to restrain their residents. #WorldMentalHealthDay Warning: disturbing scenes.pic.twitter.com/8KblPjpKT2

We give questionable figures power over ourselves because they claim to represent an invisible being. The ambit of the human brain cannot be fully grasped until we sever religion from our very lives

People who suffer from mental illness do not have easy access to the mental health care they need. The stigma tied to mental disorders is also an obstacle to care. Our reaction is deeply rooted in cultural beliefs that mental disorder and witchcraft go 'hand in hand' -

Unfortunately, people have used incarceration as a solution to ostensibly prevent the mentally ill from injuring themselves and also protect the public.

Quite a common problem in many african countries. Mental health issues hampers people's development and create side effects difficult to assess, including murders by witchcraft, social conflict and exclusion, and even unbalanced decision making processes
