You might remember @eunice_atuejide's "I am not a feminist" tweet, which went viral recently. So what did she mean by that?pic.twitter.com/9XBrsciUdC

    'Why I'm not a feminist'
Eunice Atuejide is Nigeria's youngest female aspirant for the presidential elections. She says she is not a feminist, so BBC Africa's women affairs correspondent Abigail Ony Nwaohuocha had to ask why.

I don't think this will go down well with Nigerian feminists. The phrase "I am not a feminist" seem like an offensive position to the Nigerian feminist. This contemporary brand of feminism is bigoted and the reason why more people are dissociating themselves from it.

Same thing with feminists here in the US. It doesn't matter if you fight for equality of the sexes; if you don't identify as a feminist, you are considered the enemy.

Maybe it's everywhere then. I hope one day, they can understand that one can choose not to be labelled a feminist while actively fighting for equality of the sexes.

Same here. Feminists need to realise that they don't own the concept of gender equality.

Does feminism fight from the angle that women are weak or that existing systems force women into positions of weakness?

A very good question Aunty Eunice needs to go think deeply about.

Labelling and categorization deepen inequality. It's a privilege to born a man or a woman but not a right to share both characteristics. Let's stop the #LABELLING. There's no such thing as gender equality rather we should fight for equality of opportunity for the two sexes.

Mixed feelings. I'm not sure of a wanna-be leader, who is anxious about this word. So much so, that she allocates precious campaign time to distance herself from it. What else in the future might cause her anxiety, if just this word does?
