Today’s African #proverb: If an elephant eats and is not full, it is the forest that is put to shame. A Yoruba proverb sent by Fred Idogei, Lagos, Nigeria, and Bosun Oshodi-Glover, London, UK. How do you interpret this proverb? https://bbc.in/2yns5f0 pic.twitter.com/9Rh16Yt70x

If an elephant (a person) eats and is not full, it is the forest (the household, the person who cooks the food) that is put to shame. This is what I perceived from the proverb.

If with the vast assets of the forest and yet the elephant 🐘 eats not to its full, then a question needs be asked about how well positioned and managed the forest is to supply and sustain life. Who are those managing the assets of the forest. @AgyemangAsieduG

If an average person in Nigeria cannot afford 3 square meals a day, then the government of Buhari that promised us a better life should be put to shame(in 2019 election).

Why should the forest be ashamed? Has the forest ever made any promise to the elephant. Do they have any contract to the effect. If the elephant is not satisfied, then forest is also not fruitful..

My Interpretation. Elephants = Nigerian Politician, Forest - Nigerians. I hope it makes sense?

The forest must have little or no pride in itself then, because it’s not there for just the elephants but for us all so why would it be ashamed?? Doesn’t add up
