Today’s African #proverb: No matter how lean an elephant might be, its meat will still fill a basket. A Jukun proverb sent by Curtis Dan-Bayero, Takum, Taraba, Nigeria. How do you interpret this proverb? https://bbc.in/2JCfcPV pic.twitter.com/FEL4pxDY4k

So you are unwittingly supporting elephant consumption now? There are some sayings and practices in African Culture that should be jettisonned as some have been and encouraging consumption of #Bushmeat in any form should not be encouraged such as this and through your platform.

No one is promoting consumption of meat from wildlife here. It's just a proverb.

We see and adore the elephant ‘erin’ for its aw-inspiring-gait; and not to be targeted for Bushmeat. BBC should use proverbs like that not the one promoting Elephant consumption. This is a sensitive matter for us conservationist. So, don't blame me for taking an exception to this

But the proverb is African, it was not "created" by BBC 🤷🤷

Please can someone else from this tribe in Nigeria verify this is a proverb from your place? Our culture support conservation. We adore the elephant ‘erin’ for its aw-inspiring-gait; and not to be targeted for Bushmeat.

No matter how promising a Nigerian politician/political aspirant might appear at first (during campaigns), when he/she gets into office, the story will still not be different! Selfishness and greed will still play out😎
