Maybe if there is more emphasis on Nigerian culture and history in Nigerian schools and public people will understand and appreciate what you call "facial scares". Tribal marks served different purposes in history which is actually interesting.

Facial scars? Imagine what ignorance can cause. Tribal marks and proudly so too.

Point of correction, please. These aren't facial scars. They are called tribal marks. They are meant to identify certain people by their distinctive tribes and dialects.

This is a degrading title, pls correct it. People everywhere, including western, have cultures, norms, preferences. It is Tribal Mark, worn by people PROUDLY in their own domain, never meant to degrade the "wearer." BTW, I have never seen awkward tattoo in Nigeria like in UK!

I think Olatunbosun is beautiful as she is and her marks embolden her heritage. I'm just sorry she seems to not see the beauty of her being because the world says this should not be celebrated #yorubatradition

Europeans think their way of Life is perfect for Africans. They are always twisting words around to creating negative feelings about it. The BBC Africa is a white supremacy group so of course they use "Facial Scar" rather then "Tribal Marking" to make it seem related to violence

So why do you call them “facial scars” when you already know these are tribal marks? How about learning more of the cultures of other people. Such an insult.

Please they are not "Scars", they are tribal marks! Stop this negative association subliminal messaging. I find this caption very offensive and degrading.

Seriously? Facial Scars? Such gross insolence. Ask what they are and do not profile them as “scars”.
