If immigrants and communities of color are not counted in the , our communities could receive fewer resources for critical infrastructure like roads, schools, hospitals, libraries, and other programs people rely on every day.

’s story is a decades long trend since the #1996 immigration law. Around 75% of Black people who are deported are so because of police contact. This is why we need the expansion of pardons so families like Ousman can reunite!

We continue to stand in solidarity with immigrants like Oumar and others in immigration prison and those facing deportation. No one is free until all are free.

Nakia Woods: , & others need to hold ICE & DHS accountable for the unlawful deportation of Oumar. Congress must hold a hearing on the institutional and structural breakdown that allowed DHS to unlawfully deport Oumar and others.

Oumar is being punished for living his truth and is further proof that the U.S. does not value Black Queer lives.

Nakia Woods, BAJI Community Legal Organizer: Oumar has had to live in a metaphorical cage, hiding his Queer identity from Chadian government. The U.S. gov knew that Oumar’s life would be in constant danger due to his sexuality & still chose to forcibly deport him.

Nahom was charged for possession of marijuana in 2012. Just as the country is moving on from petty marijuana charges so did Nahom. He moved past this injustice and succeeded. He worked hard to put the charge in his past and completed a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

When Nahom immigrated to North Carolina from Ethiopia as a 15-year-old boy, he navigated many of the challenges that come with being a and learning how to live life in a new country, as a Black man in America.

Help . bring Nahom home! He is a loving partner to his girlfriend Yanet, and an amazing father to their son Adam, who turns 2 in May. He has been working hard to build a good life for his family and ICE just took him away!

Nana Gyamfi, ED for , "addressed the policy in a strongly worded statement, dubbing it yet another “manifestation [of] this administration’s racist agenda against Black people travelling to and living in the U.S.”
