There's a big difference between a "paper launch" and shipping tons of units but demand exceeds supply.

Exactly. Ryzen 5000 and RTX 30 series were not paper launches. People actually managed to buy units of both, although bots weren't quite as much of an issue for Zen 3 from what I saw.

think there must be a miscommunication somewhere in the pipeline for AU then, because the stores I've chatted to have stated that 5900X stock has been delayed for a few weeks/months.

For me this is 100% true. I checked every store in Spain, and the first CPU going out of stock was the 5900x by an hour of difference. I was about to buy one and in less than 10 minutes it was out of stock in one of the stores.

Are yields allowing enough 5900 and 5950 chips to be made? One of the major tech outlets said as much. I figured yields would be fine since you’re using the same TSMC process. Did the architectural change impact yield that much?

Yields for the 5900X are presumably drawing from the same bin as the 5600X. The 5800X and 5950X would presumably be the 'perfect' dies.

Can confirm it isn't a paper lunch lots of stock at eu retailers and unlike nvidia's graphics cards. Hope this will be the same for radeon!
