Someone on NPR today mentioned that we create special immigrant visas all the time - for example for foreign nationals who provided service to the US during war. He said there should be one created for people who have been grievously injured by the United States, as in this case.

Honestly after that enduring that trauma I don’t know if I’d want to be a citizen of the US. They might be like “give me my kids and put us on a flight to Sweden, cause y’all are trash.” And rightfully so. They need asylum from the country they were asking for asylum. Damn.
