After being assaulted, Maya, me, and four other anti-racists were arrested. The racists were charged with affray (mutual fighting), but two of us were given more serious charges of simple assault. Maya got the most serious charge – a felony for allegedly bleeding on a cop.
Maya allegedly bled due to wounds inflicted by a white supremacist. If convicted, they could face a year in jail. Tomorrow’s trial won't include the felony charge, but will include several of their other charges related to that day (affray, inciting a riot, & disorderly conduct)

Ryan Barnett, who falsely accused Maya, had even graffitied their name on a sculpture at UNC. Read through the language on charging document from Doucette’s thread above. It’s incredible. They are trying to say that “fuck you, bitch” is “abusive language” and therefore criminal. But somehow, all the racial slurs directed at Maya that day don’t count as abusive language.
