Just found this on my phone, 8:06pm Tuesday night in the boiler room at IBEW with fearless leaders ⁦⁩ and ⁦⁦⁩. This feels like 7 years ago. What a team.

Our victory proved that we can choose to be motivated by hope, not fear. Together, we are powerful. Today, Delaware has a chance to send a bold leader to Washington. Polls are open til 8 please vote for my friend !

So please: put her name (not just “black woman”) in your tweets and headlines. This isn’t just the way the wind is blowing. This is about how Ayanna Pressley changed the damn weather forecast in an entrenched and challenging political climate. amen. 🙌🙏 5/5

Ayanna Pressley was the first black woman elected to the City Council. She was the top vote getter on the Council. For years, she’s been working with women locally and nationally to get things done & to build a powerful community of supporters. 4/5

    2. You don’t beat a popular incumbent by 17 percentage points because you happen to fit some new stereotype that replaced the old (in the pundits’ minds). You do that because you are an exceptional candidate with a great track record who runs HARD. 3/5

    1. It’s not some coincidental lovely freebie to be from a group of people who for hundreds of years have been told they’re not suited for leadership, and who don’t have access to the boardrooms & golf courses & backrooms where money lives and deals are made. 2/5

Ok. Soapbox alert: I seem to have to say this often the morning after Primary Day. Dudes of Social Media: *Stop* with your easy assertions that Ayanna Pressley beat Capuano because ‘it’s an asset to be a woman/person of color this year.’ 1/5

Together, we won. What our campaign accomplished last night isn't our victory alone. It was for every person who has been left out and left behind or told change would never come. Together, we are powerful. And we're just getting started.

I stand on the shoulders of those disrupters that came before me - the farm workers, the union workers, the abolitionists, the suffragettes, and athletes from Jesse Owens to Colin Kaepernick.
