I keep trying to put my finger on why it is I don't like Nier: Automata's story. The word that comes to mind is "juvenile", but I'm not sure that's precise enough. It's almost like a child throwing a temper tantrum to get a rise out of you, getting more extreme as it goes
I guess it's part of it ... I mean most of the conflict in the game is because someone jumped to conclusions and went all rampagey without ever talking about it, and he definitely is guilty of that too

Definitely. Though my read on it was that he stops trusting truth after he discovers his enemies are "alive" in the same sense he is. His gods are dead, and he is no longer immortal after the server thing. So what he sees is his reality, even if it is a misunderstanding.

Though most of that analysis does hinge on robots being programmed to have emotional rather than logical responses to stimuli, which seems quite paradoxical. :)
