In the end it's like everyone commits suicide or erases their memory or goes revenge crazy because "oh the despair", but it loses impact rather than escalating each time

I keep trying to put my finger on why it is I don't like Nier: Automata's story. The word that comes to mind is "juvenile", but I'm not sure that's precise enough. It's almost like a child throwing a temper tantrum to get a rise out of you, getting more extreme as it goes

There's no purpose to it or emotional connection. Most depressing thing about it is its open world which sucks out any desire to play the game at all.
