Also I didn't notice the facial animation being anything special? It seemed like their faces didn't even animate half the time?

That's true, but strangely the lack of fully actuated faces lent a lot of credence to the characters being automatons. Whether or not that was a deliberate design choice is something I haven't figured out yet.
