I think this game would work better in the style of Soma or Amnesia. Perhaps that would free up resources to flesh out the rest of the game more.

Finally finished Hellblade. Very mixed feelings. It has a thought provoking story but then a bunch of video gamey combat thrown in. It is like adding fight sequences to a Beautiful Mind or Shutter Island just for the sake of appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Oh man, if 5.5 is average, maybe 7? I could see the story/drama/puzzle side of the game being a 9 if not gated by Street Fighter battles that just appear out of thin air. I dunno, maybe if they were Silent Hill style opponents wandering around, rather than just popping in?

During development I always thought they cared about look and tech first. Seemed like they want to figure out all that first, and maybe make a game second.

I liked fighting there. It feels a little bit awkward fighting more then one enemy, but I guess it suits the game. Also it’s really great effect of missed strike.

I enjoyed the combat scenes more than the puzzles. I found the puzzles to be more tacked on and 'gamey' but the combat added tension to it, heightened the sense of her struggle
