For what it's worth I tend to think our fascination with violence is what drives us to play violent games and not vice versa.

I liked Soma for the most part, but then in that game the NPCs are still quite violent so not sure it counts.
Also racing games like Forza / GT... I guess those are in a category more like sports or puzzle games though

Yeah, SOMA and other horror games are weird in that even if nonviolent, they’re borne of violent premise
