Seems like a niche use gimmick that’s gonna get a handful of titles before getting relegated to the closet/trash. Long term durability is probably also nil.
I woulda totally dug labo as a kid... As an adult (especially as an indie dev) I know I'm supposed to love quirky things like this but when it comes to it they tend not to hold my attention. Maybe there is some accessibility potential here for my son...

This reminds me of all the unusual Dreamcast peripherals (it also had a fishing controller), except made of cardboard.

Based on the way I looked at the video, it looks like the intent is not just 'for kids' but maybe as a family. Since the release of the Wii, I believe their ideas of 'family friendly' and 'off the couch' gaming is their direction. It looks cool.
