What if folks held all the "best of year" awards until January of the next year so that games releasing in November/December don't get left out?

If most critics had their way, they would post their top 10 lists in mid-October and take the rest of the year off.

That would definitely be ideal. I think many of them do it early so that they have coverage to auto-post while out of the office during the holidays.

OR we could just consider a year December 1st- December 1st so we can talk about all the cool stuff of 2017 in 2017.

The awards we are determining now at Marooners Rock follows this idea. Just because there are a few December releases that could slip in

You're not wrong. But then they'd have to work through December. I can't begrudge people for taking Christmas holidays. I don't even celebrate Xmas and I wish my profession allowed for that, or any other kind, of scheduled annual vacation time 😩

Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Like Persona 5, it is a niche game but awesome nonetheless.

Yes, good point. Although I feel that a lot of game released yearly tends to be forgotten as well.

I do that on general principle. I know at least two games on my top 10 and bottom 10 were released in December. It borders on absurd.
