the best part of mario odyssey is i played through the whole main game and never once got nagged to use some kind of "super guide"

No, they actually didn't. They mentioned action guide a few times, but that was just a list of controls
For me it actually opened the action guide but maybe I pressed the wrong button

action guide is fine, by "super guide" i mean "the game plays itself through a hard part for you"
