So it looks like about 39% of eligible voters didn't vote in 2016 and that number only dropped to like 33% in 2020. So no, half the country isn't a Trump voter. It's 1/3 tops, with just as many people disengaged either way.
It's weird to me that the census is mandatory but voting is not.

NYC reporting here. Census is not mandatory. Consequently, our response rate was around 66%.
