I thought the idea was to give each state equal footing in one house (as if each state is a like a little country and this is the UN) and then the other is based on population, and it's like the reps for the states population have to balance with the reps for the state itself
That was the idea, and it's undemocratic.
Maybe that made more sense at one point, but remember a couple key differences: - originally senators were elected, now they are a disproportionate power directly from voters - the population differences between states, between senatorial power, were no where near so sharp
That was the idea, but that was also before there were millions of people in any single state. You didn't have something like Wyoming having 0.015% of the population of California. It doesn't make sense anymore.
