Now that we're solidly into 2020 I feel like there's one game mechanic we can all agree dominated the 2010s. RPG Leveling, somehow it found its way into every single genre and game style as companies realized it was an easy meaningless way to make games feel bigger and engaging.

It was probably the first thing I learned about game design, 5 year old me being taught by my much older brother about pen and paper roll playing and how you could use these numbers to feel the impact of the worlds and events we would describe. A far cry from how it's used now.
